Overview

Confirmed Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look is Rockstar’s longest look at the game: 26 minutes 48 seconds of gameplay, captured entirely in-game on a PlayStation 5, Rockstar says. It was announced on August 6, 2026, premiered on Netflix on August 27 and reached YouTube and rockstargames.com at 9 p.m. Eastern that evening.

On screen It runs from a shootout and escape to a morning at home with Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, cocktails with Brian Heder and his wife Lori, a getaway job for Raul Bautista, a strip-mall robbery, an activity montage and a Megamundo security job that turns into a firefight. It closes with Jason, Lucia and Brian on a boat.

Reported Sportskeeda’s breakdown notes that the presentation follows Jason more than Lucia.

The item wheel and disguises

On screen At 17:51.5 the wheel opens on its ITEMS tab (R1 switches from WEAPONS): a red bandana set to OFF, pink sunglasses and a cap highlighted as ROD’S RACING CAP, labeled HEADWEAR. Eight seconds later Lucia is at the Zekes Gadgets door with the bandana over her face. In a scripted scene, Jason and Lucia, masked and dressed unlike themselves, tell an interrogator they are tourists and are clearly not believed.

Reported Postmode names the face slot Face Wrap, a label we cannot read on our frames. More in the item wheel file.

Stamina, focus and the shooting course

On screen The fridge menu marks the Blitz smoothies with a lightning bolt and an eye, and at 25:11 an enemy is highlighted in blue while the eye icon shows in the HUD. At 18:32 the shooting course’s target time of 00:30.000 sits beside a medal badge.

Reported According to TGG, the three bars at the top left are health, stamina and focus, food and protein bars can push them past their limits, and focus slows time and reveals weak points on people and vehicles.

Our read A par time with a medal means the course is scored, and the run on screen is already past par with four targets still standing.

Switching and the partner AI

On screen Both character portraits appear during a chase (18:40 to 18:49). In the opening shootout Lucia, under the game’s control, takes cover, fires at the police and answers when Jason calls for cover. At the Megamundo job she is introduced as part of the security detail.

Reported Red Bull’s coverage says players can switch between Jason and Lucia at any time. See character switching.

Base jumping and fishing

On screen At 18:51.6, as Lucia base jumps over Vice City, the building directly below her is a long block with exterior walkways and a round stair tower at one end.

Reported GameSpot, Dexerto and Game Rant report fans matching that block to the apartment building from the TV series Dexter. Our read The frame proves the shape, not Rockstar’s intent.

Reported On fishing (25:52), the top reply in an r/GTA6 thread (September 6) says TGG asked Rockstar North co-head Rob Nelson directly: it is catch and release only, and hunting is the way to make money, through a character Jason knows.

Phone, cars and combat

On screen The trunk livestream (18:13 to 18:30) shows viewer numbers and comments, and elsewhere Jason and Lucia hold physical phones with the interface visible, including a social feed. In the struggle over a loose pistol near the end (25:36 to 25:43), Lucia gets contextual button options while pinned, and she later uses a high heel as a weapon.

Reported Engadget adds a Slim Jim lock minigame on the right stick (about 6:07 by its count), key cloners for modern cars, a pedestrian left hanging off a bridge after reckless driving (about 8:58), hit points marked red for lethal and yellow for disarming, and a quick swap between two guns.

Activities

On screen Beyond the missions the video shows airboats in the wetlands, basketball, jet skis, kayaks, organized racing, parachuting, scuba diving through an underwater cave, backyard wrestling (09:26) and a car meet (26:06). The line at 19:05 brings up battle rap.

Reported Red Bull’s coverage lists basketball, alligator hunting and scuba diving among the activities.

Brands, places and signs

On screen The strip mall of the store robbery (17:51 to 17:54) reads VIDEO FOREVER (rent, buy, sell and trade video games, plus snacks) with BANK OWNED, STORE CLOSING! and CLOSING DOWN, EVERYTHING HALF PRICE in its windows. Next door, ZEKES GADGETS advertises WE DO REPAIRS, MASSIVE REDUCTIONS! and the brands THRIFTEX, SUMO and TENSHUN. The third shop, CASA DE EMPEÑO $$$ JOYERÍA EMPEÑOS, has signs for PAWN SHOP, WATCHES, PHONES, OPEN 7 DAYS, INSTANT CASH and GOLD SILVER DIAMONDS.

On screen At home the fridge door holds a FLEECA BANK magnet, a LOMBANK magnet, a Polaroid of a small dog and a beach photo, with a tub of salted butter inside. The menu lists LOGGER BEER, LAVAZAS BEER, BLITZ BERRY SMOOTHIE and BLITZ GREEN SMOOTHIE. A club door elsewhere carries OVER 21 ONLY, ID CHECK and NO WEAPONS posters, with a bouncer greeting Jason, and inside there is a stage and a THROW prompt.

Reported Postmode logs details we have not located in our own cuts: Jesters chips in Ketchup & Blue Cheese, Spicy BBQ Oyster and Classic Durian, a “We Saved Makenzi From The Ocean” marine-park sign, Big Smoke Cigar Co passed in a chase, Bugstars rat poison in a drug-cooking scene, a Crevis backpack, Sahara Mirage and Didier Sachs in the apartment, a Gloriana plate, a Vice City FM ad on a phone box, Fizzazz spraying when shot, and a manatee mascot on a shirt and cap. It also describes a final shot of a bloodied man standing on a seaplane wing, after the point where our cut ends (26:17).

What previews added

TGG

Reported YouTuber TGG was flown out by Rockstar North, shown the Extended Look before release and allowed to watch developers play for about two hours more. His account, as summarized in an r/GTA6 thread on release day (5,871 points), adds:

• Reported A Criminal Profile, an “honor like” system that worsens with crime but not with clean, professional work, shown as a badge that cracks for good when it gets really bad. See Criminal Profile.
• Reported A relationship between Jason and Lucia that rises with texts, dates and gym sessions, and holding hands while roaming together.
• Reported A map twice the size of GTA V’s and three times Red Dead Redemption 2’s, with Vice City twice the size of Los Santos.
• Reported Three kinds of money: the bank, cash on hand that can be lost on death or arrest, and a duffel bag of loot that has to go to a fence.
• Reported Police who stay off the minimap, red search circles, trackers in every police car and a map-wide chase at six stars. See police.
• Reported No more auto aim, aim assist instead, and kill cams like those of Red Dead Redemption 2 and Max Payne.

El Rubius

Reported YouTuber El Rubius watched nearly three hours of the game, with Rockstar’s Rob Nelson at the controls for parts of it, according to an r/GTA6 summary (September 3, 4,929 points):

• Reported Nelson took Jason and Lucia through a fully explorable hotel, up to the roof by elevator with no loading screen, and stole the helicopter parked there.
• Reported A 3D map valued one jewelry store’s loot at $15,000 to $40,000 and showed its entry points. In one robbery the safe code came from an employee’s desk, and every gold bar, diamond and stack of cash was picked up by hand.
• Reported After Lucia flew off without him, Jason texted her: “Hey, aren’t you forgetting something?” Leaving a partner behind in a shootout can make them angry and hurt how well they cooperate in heists.
• Reported Bodies can go in car trunks, and so can Jason and Lucia. A stranger begging for a ride home started a mission with a reward and a cutscene.

Where the accounts differ

Reported On gore, El Rubius says he watched Nelson blow an NPC’s head off with a shotgun and was not sure that level would make the final game, while a reply under the same summary says the creator Davy Jones repeated that gore is toned down from Red Dead Redemption 2. On first-person view, El Rubius says his build had none and Nelson told him it had not been added “at the moment”. On size they agree: a Rockstar tech told El Rubius the map is about three times Red Dead Redemption 2’s.

What the video does not show

On screen In the footage we have reviewed, nothing is labeled Criminal Profile, no choice about how to open a safe is shown, and no property is bought. The two money figures carry no labels.

What players spotted

• Reported Phone screens go black when held to the ear, which an r/GTA6 thread (August 28, 4,580 points) called proximity sensors.
• Reported Lucia keeps a magazine that still has rounds in it when she reloads, where GTA V characters drop it (thread, September 21).
• Reported The wildlife commercial on the home TV appears to show a Red Dead Redemption 2 location, and commenters compared its narrator to Arthur Morgan (thread, August 28, 7,752 points). Engadget describes its boars and deer.
• Reported Lucia’s one-handed shotgun pump started a realism argument (thread, August 31, 10,224 points).
• Reported In the jewelry store fight, a commenter noticed Lucia’s gun going off during the struggle and shattering a display case (thread, September 1, 11,284 points).
• Reported The minimap draws buildings in 3D and carries an iFruit logo (thread, August 29), and a reply says TGG’s video mentions several minimap styles.
• Reported Players noticed the chosen drink simply appears in Jason’s hand at the fridge, and “the fridge” became a running joke, still mocked in a September 2 thread.

Our read

Our read The Extended Look is a systems tour more than a trailer: nearly every minute shows a menu, a prompt or a readout a trailer would cut. The two money figures, the disguise slots and the burned getaway car agree with TGG’s account that the crime is half the job and getting clean is the other half. The biggest gap is the Criminal Profile, which previews describe and the video never shows.
