Grand Theft Auto VI

Overview

Confirmed Grand Theft Auto VI is the next main game in Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto series, set in the state of Leonida and its biggest city, Vice City. It follows two criminals, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, and launches on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Confirmed Rockstar’s synopsis: Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. When an easy score goes wrong, they end up on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, caught in a criminal conspiracy that stretches across the state, and have to rely on each other more than ever to get out alive.

Confirmed Rockstar’s June 2026 pre-order announcement describes the game as a single player experience.

Story and characters

Confirmed Jason Duval grew up among con artists and criminals, joined the Army to get away from a troubled adolescence, and ended up in the Leonida Keys running jobs for local drug smugglers. He lives rent-free in one of Brian Heder’s properties in return for help with local shakedowns.

Confirmed Lucia Caminos was taught to fight by her father almost as soon as she could walk. Fighting for her family put her in the Leonida Penitentiary, luck got her out, and she has come out determined to make only smart moves.

Confirmed The supporting cast Rockstar has named:

• Confirmed Cal Hampton, Jason’s friend, who listens in on Coast Guard radio and believes too much of the internet.
• Confirmed Brian Heder, an old-school Keys drug runner with a boat yard and his third wife, Lori.
• Confirmed Raul Bautista, a veteran bank robber who recruits new talent for bigger jobs.
• Confirmed Boobie Ike, a Vice City legend with property, a strip club and a recording studio.
• Confirmed Dre’Quan Priest, who runs Only Raw Records with Boobie.
• Confirmed Real Dimez, the rap duo Bae-Luxe and Roxy, now signed to Only Raw Records.

Reported Stephen Root told Vice on September 14 that he plays Brian: “Yeah, you are going to see me in there. It’s coming out November 19.” He is the first cast member on the record.

Leonida

Confirmed Rockstar has presented six regions: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, the Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park. The Ultimate Edition text calls Leonida “the Goodtime State”. Rockstar has not published a map.

Reported TGG, who watched developers play at Rockstar North, says the map is twice the size of GTA V’s and three times Red Dead Redemption 2’s, with Vice City twice the size of Los Santos. El Rubius says a Rockstar tech gave him the same three-times figure, and that his brief look at the map showed an island without the northern section rumors had described.

Our read Leonida is Florida: Vice City is Miami, the Keys are the Florida Keys and the Grassrivers are the Everglades.

Official videos

Confirmed Rockstar has released three videos:

On screen The Extended Look, captured in-game on a PlayStation 5, shows a store robbery, a new item wheel with Weapons and Items tabs, stamina and focus drinks, a scored shooting course, character selection mid-chase, base jumping and fishing.

What previews report

Reported Content creators were invited to Rockstar North in Edinburgh ahead of the Extended Look, according to an r/GTA6 thread on August 26. TGG watched developers play there for about two hours, and El Rubius watched nearly three hours of the game. Their accounts, as summarized on r/GTA6, add:

• Reported A world more reactive than earlier GTA games, in which you are constantly making decisions (TGG).
• Reported A Criminal Profile that tracks how Jason and Lucia commit crimes, from Professional to Psycho and a permanent Shattered state (PC Gamer, IBTimes UK, TGG). See Criminal Profile.
• Reported A relationship between Jason and Lucia raised by texts, dates and gym sessions (TGG), which affects how well they cooperate in heists (El Rubius).
• Reported Health, stamina and focus bars that can be raised temporarily and permanently, fuel for cars and charging for electric ones (TGG).
• Reported Three kinds of money: the bank, cash on hand and a duffel bag of loot that has to go to a fence (TGG).
• Reported Police who stay off the minimap, search in red circles and remember your look, car and weapons, up to a six-star, map-wide chase (TGG). See police.
• Reported No first-person view in the build El Rubius saw, which Rob Nelson told him had not been added “at the moment”.

Release and marketing so far

Confirmed The Extended Look was announced on August 6, 2026 and premiered on Netflix on August 27. The Album followed on September 17 with six singles.

Reported New official screenshots went up around the Extended Look, and on August 31 an r/GTA6 commenter counted 29 new ones on the official media page. On September 16 a thread relaying Kurro on X showed Spotify teasing GTA 6 collaborations (9,717 points).

The August 2026 leaks

Reported In August 2026 a leaker posting as CyberLeek released a run of gameplay clips. TechWiser counts 17, including one called “Boat Night” that it dates to August 27. The Game Post and Game Rant described a leaked map (August 19 to 20) with five counties, Lummox, Kelly, Leonard, Vice-Dale and Mariana, none of it confirmed.

Reported Rockstar said the leaks were “heartbreaking for our team”, that the game was “nearly there” and that the release date was unchanged, according to Kotaku, PC Gamer and VGC. Take-Two subpoenaed Microsoft and Discord on August 20, then Google and X, and on September 1 filed a sealed request saying it had “identified one additional Discord user and obtained additional identifying information for a previously identified Discord user” (Variety, Kotaku, Tom’s Hardware, Dexerto). No names are public.

Our read We describe leaks in words only, never for story details, and nothing in them has moved the date.

Our read

Our read Everything Rockstar has shown in 2026 points at a slower, more systemic GTA than GTA V: money you have to launder, police who remember you, a partner with a mood of her own. The confirmed facts are still thin on the systems themselves, which is why so much of this file is Reported. Expect Rockstar to fill that gap in the eight weeks before launch.
