Overview

Confirmed Grand Theft Auto VI is set across Leonida, a fictional US state that Rockstar presents in six regions: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, the Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park. Rockstar sells it as home to the neon streets of Vice City and a lot more beyond them, and its synopsis puts Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, caught in a conspiracy that stretches across the state.

Confirmed The regions arrived on the official site with Trailer 2 on May 6, 2025. Rockstar has not published a map.

Places named so far

• Confirmed Vice City: Ocean Beach, Little Cuba, the Tisha-Wocka flea market and VC Port in the city text, and Southside in the Ultimate Edition text.
• Confirmed Edition text, region not stated: Shore Drive, Washington Beach, Stockyard, Watson Bay (the Paradise Garage), Lake Leonida (One-Eyed Willie’s) and Gambit Bay (the Squalo’s fishing grounds).
• Confirmed Elsewhere: the Allied Crystal refinery in Ambrosia, the Leonida Penitentiary in Lucia Caminos’s bio, and the Tequesta Point condos in one of Rockstar’s screenshots of August 31, 2026.

What the signs say

On screen Rockstar’s stills and trailers carry more place names on signs than its text does:

Our read Two of these point at a layer Rockstar has not described: a county sheriff in Ambrosia and a county road in Vice City. Leonida has counties, but the official material has not named them.

The map

Confirmed Rockstar has not published a map of Leonida.

Reported The fan-made community map, reconstructed from official footage, puts Mount Kalaga along the northern border, Port Gellhorn on the west coast, Ambrosia beside Lake Leonida, Vice City on the south-east coast, the Grassrivers across the south and the Keys strung out below the mainland. Our interactive state map follows it and shows 27 named places from its placement of official stills and Trailer 2 frames, 13 of them in and around Vice City.

How big is Leonida

Reported TGG, who watched developers play for about two hours at Rockstar North, and El Rubius, who watched nearly three, compared the map with Rockstar’s earlier games:

Reported The TGG summary adds that Vice City and its surroundings are 11 times bigger than Los Santos and its surroundings. El Rubius, who saw the map for a moment, said it looked like an island without the northern section that has been the subject of rumors.

Our read We leave the 11x figure out: it is not clear what area it measures. Rockstar has published none of these numbers.

In the trailers and the Extended Look

• On screen Trailer 1 (December 4, 2023) opens with Lucia in prison, then stays in and around Vice City, down to a store’s security camera catching an alligator at 0:47.
• On screen Trailer 2 (May 6, 2025) opens over islands at about 0:07 and ranges across the state: a watchtower behind razor wire at about 0:50, Brian’s Boat Works & Marina at about 1:26, the NINE1NINE club at 1:40, an airboat at 2:18. Times come from frame numbers at 30 frames a second.
• On screen An Extended Look (August 27, 2026) adds an airboat run through a wetland (17:07), a coastal stilt house (17:12), a strip mall robbery (17:51), Lucia’s base jump over Vice City (18:48) and a fishing trip with Brian (25:52).
• Reported The community map places Trailer 2’s opening in the Keys and a shot at about 2:29 in Port Gellhorn. SVG published a guide to the Leonida locations it spotted in the Extended Look.

What previews reported

• Reported Safehouses and garages all over the map, and fast travel that includes taxis and bus stops (TGG).
• Reported At six stars, police chase you across the whole map (TGG).
• Reported Rob Nelson of Rockstar North took Jason and Lucia through a fully explorable hotel and up to the roof by elevator, with no loading screen, then stole a helicopter parked there (El Rubius).

What players spotted

• Reported An r/GTA6 thread spotted a Red Dead Redemption 2 location in a TV commercial in the Extended Look, and Engadget notes an in-game TV ad with boars and deer at 7:45. Our read Not every landscape on a Leonida TV is Leonida.
• Reported Postmode’s list of Extended Look details includes a marine-park sign reading “We Saved Makenzi From The Ocean”, a Vice City FM ad on a phone box and a license plate reading Gloriana.

The leaked map

Reported A map of Leonida leaked on August 19 and 20, 2026. As described by The Game Post and Game Rant, it divides the state into five counties, Lummox, Kelly, Leonard, Vice-Dale and Mariana, and adds names such as Catalan Bay, Catalan Key, Gloriana Key, Tequesta Retreat and Dalton Island.

Our read None of it is confirmed, and we do not show or link the leaked map. Two names brush against official material: the Gloriana plate Postmode spotted, and the Tequesta Point condos in Rockstar’s August 31 screenshot.

Real-world inspiration

Our read Leonida is Rockstar’s version of Florida: Vice City matches Miami, the Keys the Florida Keys, the Grassrivers the Everglades, and Lake Leonida Lake Okeechobee. Mount Kalaga is the exception, since Florida has no mountains.

Our read

Our read Rockstar has shown Leonida region by region and never as a whole, and its stills already say more than its text: a county sheriff in Ambrosia, an Interstate 97 shield in Vice City, a Watson Bay water tower in the Grassrivers. El Rubius’s island impression sits oddly with Rockstar’s own wording, which puts Mount Kalaga against the state’s northern border. Until Rockstar publishes a map, our state map pins only what official footage shows.

Questions

Has Rockstar released a map of Leonida?

Confirmed No. The regions are described on the official site, but there is no official map yet.

How big is the GTA 6 map?

Reported TGG says about twice GTA V’s and three times Red Dead Redemption 2’s, and El Rubius heard three times Red Dead Redemption 2’s from a Rockstar technician. Rockstar has given no figure.

Does Leonida have counties?

On screen Its signs say so: an Ambrosia County Sheriffs Office in an Ambrosia still and a county road shield in a Vice City still. Reported The five county names in circulation come from the leaked map and are unconfirmed.

Where does the story start?

Confirmed In the Leonida Keys for Jason Duval, who runs jobs for local drug smugglers there, and at the Leonida Penitentiary for Lucia Caminos, who has just come out.
