Leonida Keys

Overview

Confirmed The Leonida Keys are a chain of tropical islands off the southern tip of the state: open water, boats, bars and a slower, sun-bleached pace, with its own share of trouble. Jason Duval lives and works here when the story starts, running jobs for local drug smugglers, and the official site places his section beside the Keys, where his story begins.

Confirmed The Keys are also Brian Heder’s turf. Brian is a drug runner from the golden age of smuggling in the Keys who still moves product through his boat yard, which he runs with his third wife, Lori. Rockstar says he looks like a Leonida beach bum and moves like a great white shark.

Key facts

• Confirmed Jason’s home: one of Brian Heder’s properties, rent-free, in return for help with local shakedowns and the odd glass of Lori’s sangria.
• On screen Brian’s business: Brian’s Boat Works & Marina, whose hangar sign appears in Trailer 2 at about 1:26.
• On screen Named bar: The Rusty Anchor, readable on its sign in an official still.
• Confirmed Wildlife: iguanas, and reefs where Rockstar’s caption lists coral, fish, an eel and a sea turtle.
• Reported Brian’s actor: Stephen Root, who told Vice in September 2026 that he plays him.
• Our read Based on: the Florida Keys.

What the stills show

• On screen Still 01: a seaplane low over the water, a bridge carrying cars between two islands and a city skyline on the horizon.
• On screen Still 02: an iguana crosses the road in front of a woman on a mobility scooter. Behind her stand Chip’s Body Shop, a shuttle bus and a billboard selling a Squalo boat on business efficiency and product delivery.
• On screen Still 03: The Rusty Anchor, its sign carrying the line “Sink Your Troubles at The Rusty Anchor”, a Crab Festival banner on the porch rail and a man asleep at a picnic table among empty bottles.
• Confirmed Still 04: two scuba divers over a reef, with coral, fish, an eel and a sea turtle in Rockstar’s caption.
• On screen Still 05: a boat party of speedboats and jet skis, a man on a flamingo float and a center-console boat named Lurepredator, with Dinka outboards and an LN registration number.
• On screen 2026 screenshot: an iguana basking on a rock, a small island of palms behind it.

Brian’s boat yard and Jason’s stilt house

On screen Trailer 2 opens with an aerial over islands at about 0:07, then cuts to a weathered teal house on stilts with a pickup parked beneath it at about 0:08. At about 1:26 it shows a hangar at night under the sign of Brian’s Boat Works & Marina (boat repairs, equipment and storage), a seaplane at its doors.

Our read The stilt house looks like the one in the Ultimate Edition’s screenshot of Jason’s safehouse, with his Vapid Ganado, Dinka Enduro and Crest Kayak parked outside.

On screen In one of Jason’s official screenshots he stands with a pistol beside a seaplane whose blue lettering ends in “rina”, while a police boat closes in. Our read The lettering matches the marina’s sign.

Reported The community map puts Brian’s hangar, the stilt house and the spot where Trailer 2 opens close together in the Keys.

On screen In the Extended Look, Jason, Lucia and Brian go fishing from a boat (25:52), and Brian is with them in the closing boat scene (26:15). An earlier basketball shot (17:12 to 17:17) is framed beside a weathered house raised on stilts by the water.

Places on our map

Reported Our state map shows four places in the Keys from the community map’s placement of official material. Trailer 2 times are frame numbers at 30 frames a second.

Leaked names

Reported The leaked map described by The Game Post and Game Rant includes Catalan Key and Gloriana Key among its place names. Rockstar has confirmed neither, and we do not show the map.

Real-world inspiration

Our read The Keys mirror the Florida Keys, down to the long bridges linking island to island, and invasive green iguanas are a familiar sight in the real Florida Keys.

Our read

Our read The Keys are where Jason’s life is: a house on stilts, a boss with a boat yard and a seaplane, and a bar to sink your troubles in. The skyline on the horizon of still 01 is most likely Vice City’s, which would put these islands within sight of the city. The billboard selling a Squalo for product delivery is Rockstar’s joke about the smuggling in Brian’s bio.
