Scuba diving

Overview

Confirmed Rockstar’s official caption for one of its Leonida Keys stills lists coral, fish, an eel and a sea turtle around two scuba divers. On screen The Extended Look adds a diver in full gear exploring what appears to be an underwater cave. Reported Red Bull’s Extended Look coverage lists scuba diving among the activities.

Key facts

• Confirmed Where: a reef off the Leonida Keys.
• Confirmed Sea life: coral, fish, an eel and a sea turtle, per Rockstar’s caption.
• On screen Extended Look: a diver exploring an underwater cave in the activity montage.
• On screen Gear on a boat: the Shitzu Squalo’s screenshots show a scuba tank and vest aboard.

On the reef

On screen The Keys still is taken underwater. Light falls from the surface onto a reef of coral and sea fans, a sea turtle swims through the foreground, an eel stretches out from the rocks on the left and schools of fish surround the divers. On screen The nearest diver wears a black wetsuit and white fins.

Confirmed The Keys are the island chain off Leonida’s southern tip, home to Brian Heder’s boat yard and, when the story starts, to Jason Duval.

In the Extended Look

On screen The Extended Look’s activity montage includes a properly equipped diver moving through what looks like an underwater cave, not just someone swimming near the surface. Our read A cave suggests Rockstar has built places to explore under the water, not only open reef.

The boat side

On screen Two of the Ultimate Edition’s Shitzu Squalo screenshots carry dive gear: a yellow tank at the stern in the dusk shot, and a tank with a buoyancy vest on the swim platform while dolphins swim alongside. Confirmed Rockstar pitches the Squalo for fishing trips out to Gambit Bay. Our read The dive gear suggests it doubles as a dive boat.

Our read

Our read Three separate pieces of official material point at diving: a Keys reef still, a cave in the Extended Look and tanks on the Squalo. We think diving will be a real activity in the Keys, most likely with things to find underwater. Our read How long a diver can stay down, and what there is to find, has not been shown.
