Fishing

Overview

Confirmed Fishing is one of the activities Rockstar names for Leonida: it lists fishing among Mount Kalaga’s draws and pitches the Ultimate Edition’s Shitzu Squalo for casting in Gambit Bay and reeling in catches of all sorts. Reported The fish cannot be sold, though. TGG asked Rockstar North co-head Rob Nelson, and Nelson said fishing is catch and release only, according to the top reply in an r/GTA6 thread.

Key facts

• Confirmed Where: Mount Kalaga National Park, and Gambit Bay for the Squalo.
• Reported Rules: catch and release only, per Rob Nelson’s answer to TGG.
• Reported Money: hunting, not fishing, pays, through a character Jason knows.
• On screen Extended Look: Jason, Lucia and Brian Heder fish from a boat at about 25:52.
• On screen Official still: Jason fishing from a boat while Cal Hampton watches.

Catch and release

Reported The answer surfaced when an r/GTA6 user asked whether a fishing claim seen on Twitter had been confirmed. The top reply, with more than 2,000 upvotes, said TGG had put the question to Rob Nelson directly: fishing is catch and release only, and hunting is for money through a character that Jason knows. Reported The same reply guessed at other rewards, such as registering record catches or fishing competitions, but that part is the commenter’s speculation.

Mount Kalaga and Gambit Bay

Confirmed Rockstar’s Mount Kalaga text names hunting, fishing and off-road trails as the park’s draws. Confirmed The Squalo, docked at Washington Beach, is pitched for fishing trips out to Gambit Bay, a place Rockstar has named only in that description. Our read That gives fishing a backwoods side in the park and a boat side out of Vice City.

Our read

Our read Catch and release makes fishing a pastime rather than a money grinder, and Rockstar has put the earning on hunting instead. Our read The Squalo’s pitch, Jason’s screenshot with Cal and the Extended Look’s trip with Brian all show fishing as a social outing on a boat.
