GTA 6 Extended Look details: what r/GTA6 spotted, and the theories it started

A tactical reload, a phone that dims at the ear, a Red Dead Redemption 2 location in a TV ad and a fall Lucia should not survive: the details r/GTA6 found in the Extended Look, and which claims still have no source.

Overview

Confirmed Rockstar released Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look on August 27, 2026: 26 minutes 48 seconds of the game captured on PS5, following Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos through a robbery, a chase and a day at home.

Reported In the four weeks since, r/GTA6 has gone through it frame by frame. The threads below are the month’s top finds that carry information, from a phone screen that dims at the ear to a fall Lucia should not have survived. Players found them; we link every thread and say where a claim still has no source.

Key facts

  • Confirmed The footage: An Extended Look, 26:48, released August 27, 2026 on Netflix and then YouTube.
  • Reported Finds: a proximity sensor on the in-game phone, a tactical reload by Lucia, aloe plants that burst when hit, and a Red Dead Redemption 2 location in a TV commercial.
  • Reported Biggest debates: whether Lucia can pump a shotgun one-handed, and whether the minimal HUD needs rounded corners.
  • Reported Open theories: how Lucia survives a fatal-looking fall, and why her ankle monitor swaps legs in the album artwork.
  • Our read Unsourced: the widely shared “80 hours” story length has no Rockstar source.

The details players caught

Reported The phone knows it is at your ear. An August 28 thread shows a character raising the phone to the ear and its screen going black, the way a real proximity sensor works. Commenters joked that the fanbase had waited ten years for it; others spotted a Righteous Slaughter T-shirt in the same shot.

Reported Lucia keeps a half-empty magazine. A September 21 thread slows down a reload: Lucia swaps a magazine that still has rounds in it and keeps it, where GTA V’s characters dropped every magazine on the ground. One reply adds that she does not rack the slide, since a round is still chambered. Our read That is a tactical reload, and it hints that the game tracks what is left in a magazine.

Reported Aloe plants burst. A September 2 clip shows aloe vera plants spraying water when a car drives through them.

Reported The robbery reacts. A September 1 clip from a store robbery, titled “NPCs actually realize when they’re outnumbered”, drew praise for its sunlit interior. One commenter noticed Lucia’s gun going off by accident while she struggles with a man, shattering a display case beside her.

Reported A minimap that navigates on foot. An August 29 thread compares the new minimap with earlier games: 3D buildings, route guidance while walking, and an iFruit logo on the map screen. A commenter adds that TGG’s preview mentions several minimap designs to choose from.

The debates

Reported The one-handed shotgun. A shot of Lucia pumping a shotgun with one hand drew complaints that it was unrealistic. On August 31 a player posted a clip showing it can be done, and the top reply pointed out that Sarah Connor does it in Terminator 2. Others said the recoil, not the pump, is the hard part.

Reported The HUD. Two fan mockups from August 28, one giving the HUD rounded corners and one turning the item wheel into a circle, each drew thousands of upvotes. A commenter who works in UI design argued the real problem is small icons inside big boxes. Our read Rockstar has not said whether the HUD will change before launch.

Reported Gore and first person. El Rubius, who watched nearly three hours, says a shotgun headshot took an NPC’s head clean off, and that he was not sure that level of gore would stay in the final game. He adds that first-person view was not in the build he saw, and that Rob Nelson told him it had not been added “at the moment”.

The theories

Reported How does Lucia survive the fall? A September 5 thread asks how Lucia lives through a fall that looks fatal. The top reply suggests she turns the man she falls with so he lands first. Others think the shot is a failed quick-time event standing in for a “Mission Failed” screen, and one simply says it is the ending. Our read Nothing Rockstar has said settles it.

Reported The ankle monitor. Lucia wears an ankle monitor on her right leg in most artwork, but on her left in the new album artwork, a September 17 thread noticed. The most upvoted replies say wearers can swap legs; another says pieces made by different artists often disagree. Our read We read it as an art slip, not a story clue.

Reported The scraped knees. Another September 17 thread notes Lucia’s knees look scraped in several artworks. The favorite theory ties it to the Extended Look, where she and Jason escape through an occupied apartment and out of a window.

Reported A Red Dead Redemption 2 location on TV. An August 28 thread matched the scenery in an in-game TV commercial with boars and deer, which Engadget places at about 7:45, to a Red Dead Redemption 2 location. Commenters compared the narrator’s voice to Arthur Morgan’s, and pointed out that Rockstar has put footage from its older games on in-game TVs before.

Reported Does Jason keep his house? Under a September 18 thread about a new Jason poster, a player wondered whether Jason keeps his home all game or moves on, since the story comes in chapters. Confirmed Rockstar’s Ultimate Edition text does describe items unlocked chapter by chapter.

Reported Spotify. When Spotify put GTA VI banners up on September 16 and a GTA VI artist page appeared, threads guessed that radio stations might come to Spotify before the game, or that Spotify might be inside it. Confirmed On September 17 Rockstar announced Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, 34 original tracks out on launch day.

Claims to treat with care

Reported “80 hours of story.” The month’s second most upvoted thread, on August 27, says the main story plus some side goals runs about 80 hours. The claim arrived as an image with no named source, and one of the top replies asked whether it came from Rockstar. Our read Rockstar has not given a length, so treat 80 hours as unconfirmed.

Reported The map size. TGG, who watched developers play at Rockstar North, relays that the map is about twice the size of GTA V’s and three times Red Dead Redemption 2’s. El Rubius heard “about three times” Red Dead from a Rockstar staffer and says the map he glimpsed looked like an island. Our read These are previewers’ numbers, not a Rockstar figure.

Our read

Our read The most upvoted finds are small and physical: a phone screen, a magazine, a plant. That fits what previewers keep saying, that the world reacts more than in earlier GTA games. The relationship may matter more still: an August 30 thread argued that the biggest change is that Jason and Lucia can be together all the time, where earlier leads lived separate lives between missions.

Our read Two of the loudest claims, the 80-hour story and the map size, rest on unsourced images and previewers’ recollections. Until Rockstar puts a number on either, we file them under Reported and nothing more.

Questions

Is GTA 6 80 hours long?

Our read Unconfirmed. The figure comes from an unsourced image shared on August 27, and Rockstar has not given a story length.

Does GTA 6 have tactical reloads?

Reported A September 21 r/GTA6 thread shows Lucia keeping a partly used magazine when she reloads, instead of dropping it as GTA V’s characters did.

Is there a Red Dead Redemption 2 reference in GTA 6?

Reported Players matched the scenery of an in-game TV commercial in the Extended Look to a Red Dead Redemption 2 location.

Will GTA 6 have first person?

Reported Not in the build El Rubius saw. He says Rob Nelson told him it had not been added “at the moment”.
