Overview

On screen Base jumping appears in the Extended Look’s run of side activities. At about 18:48, Lucia Caminos jumps from a tower and parachutes down over Vice City, a few seconds after the scored shooting course at 18:32. Our read It is the only base jump Rockstar has shown, and nothing else about the activity has been confirmed.

Key facts

  • On screen When: about 18:48 to 18:51 in the Extended Look.
  • On screen Who: Lucia.
  • On screen Where: above Vice City.
  • On screen Below her: a long block with exterior walkways and a round stair tower at one end, at about 18:51.6.
  • Reported Easter egg: GameSpot and Dexerto report fans matching that block to the apartment building from Dexter.

In the Extended Look

On screen The jump belongs to the stretch of side activities in the second half of the video, which also takes in an airboat in the wetlands, basketball, kayaks, a man livestreaming from a car trunk during a police chase (about 18:13) and the shooting course (about 18:32). On screen At about 18:51.6, directly below Lucia, is a long apartment block with walkways along the outside and a round stair tower at one end.

Confirmed Rockstar says the Extended Look was captured entirely from in-game footage on a PlayStation 5.

The Dexter building

Reported GameSpot and Dexerto report fans matching the block to the apartment building from the TV series Dexter, which was set in Miami. Our read Our frames prove the shape, not the intent: a long block with outdoor walkways and a round stair tower is consistent with the reports, but Rockstar has said nothing about it.

Getting up high

Reported El Rubius, who watched nearly three hours of play, says Rob Nelson took Jason and Lucia into a fully explorable hotel and rode its elevator to the roof without a loading screen, where they found a helicopter and stole it, according to the r/GTA6 summary of his preview. Our read Rooftops reached without a loading screen are what base jumping needs, so we expect Vice City’s towers to double as jump points.

Our read

Our read One jump in a montage is thin evidence for a full activity, but a parachute over the city in in-game footage is enough to say that jumping from Vice City’s towers exists in some form. Our read Whether it is scored, like the shooting course a few seconds earlier, is the big unknown.
