Overview

Confirmed Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look premiered on Netflix on August 27, 2026 and reached YouTube and rockstargames.com at 9 p.m. Eastern. It runs 26 minutes 48 seconds and, Rockstar says, was captured entirely from in-game footage on a PlayStation 5.

On screen It follows Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos through an apartment shootout, an evening at home, a police chase with the bank robber Raul Bautista, a montage of side activities and a security job at a Megamundo event, with Brian Heder on the boat in the closing scenes.

Details worth a second look

On screen The two money readouts at 17:51.6 sit beside different symbols, $15,150 by a purple one and $700 by a green wallet. The frame shows two balances, not what each one is.

On screen Directly below Lucia’s base jump is a long block with exterior walkways and a round stair tower at one end. Reported GameSpot and Dexerto report fans matching it to the apartment building from the TV series Dexter. Our read The frame proves the shape, not the intent.

What the previews added

Reported YouTuber TGG, who saw the video early and watched developers play for about two more hours at Rockstar North, published his notes on release day. According to the r/GTA6 summary, the map is twice the size of GTA 5’s and three times Red Dead Redemption 2’s, and three bars track health, stamina and focus.

Reported TGG also describes three kinds of money: bank, cash and the value of your duffel bag. Cash on you can be lost on death or arrest, and loot has to go to a fence. His notes describe the Criminal Profile too.

Reported El Rubius, who watched nearly three hours, says Rob Nelson took Jason and Lucia through a hotel lobby and up to the roof by elevator without a loading screen, then stole a helicopter that happened to be there. He also says the version he saw had no first-person view, and that Nelson told him it had not been added “at the moment”.

What players spotted

  • Reported A Red Dead cameo: an r/GTA6 thread noticed that a commercial on the apartment TV appears to reuse a location from Red Dead Redemption 2. Engadget places that ad, with boars and deer, at 7:45.
  • Reported Phones that go dark: a thread showed the phone screen switching off when held to the ear.
  • Reported The one-handed pump: Lucia’s shotgun move at 09:20 started a realism argument, and one r/GTA6 poster shared a video showing that a shotgun can be pumped with one hand.
  • Reported Tactical reloads: a thread noticed Lucia keeping a magazine that is not empty when she reloads, where GTA 5 characters drop it.
  • Reported A stray shot: commenters on a store clip noticed Lucia’s gun going off by accident in a struggle and shattering a display case.
  • Reported Brands: Postmode lists Jesters chips in Ketchup & Blue Cheese and Classic Durian, Bugstars rat poison and a Vice City FM ad on a phone box.
  • Reported The last shot: Postmode says the video ends on a bloodied man standing on a seaplane wing.

Our read

Our read The Extended Look is a tour of systems more than a trailer. Several mechanics the previews describe have a matching frame, such as the money readouts and the disguise slots, but the menus that would explain them never appear.

Our read The quiet moments carry as much information as the shootouts: a video store closing down beside a pawn shop, a fridge full of brands, a stranger in a VR headset seen through binoculars.

Does it show the Criminal Profile or a first-person view?

On screen Neither appears in the video. Reported The Criminal Profile comes from preview reports, and El Rubius says first-person had not been added to the version he saw.

What songs are in it?

Reported Game Rant lists 14, among them Let Your Love Flow, Love Bites, People Are People on a car radio at 8:21, Cars and Girls, Devil Woman, Se Me Nota and Against All Odds.
